Gorillabox manages mobile TV for Mandela Day

Managed mobile TV enabler Gorillabox partnered with international London-headquartered AIDS charity 46664 and mobile operator 3 to provide mobile TV content from Nelson Mandela's birthday concert, streamed live from Hyde Park.

Comprising artists such as Amy Winehouse, Razorlight, Annie Lennox and Simple Minds, the event saw Gorillabox host and manage the video content from the live event and make it available over mobile networks across the UK in conjunction with 3.

Creating a dedicated mobile internet site for AIDS charity 46664, which was promoted from 3's own site, Gorillabox is hosting, managing and deploying free and chargeable video content, as well as promotional content.

Said Cosmo Caddy, international co-ordinator at 46664, "46664 is proud to be teaming up with the experts at Gorillabox to reach new audiences through mobile phones. 46664 has always made use of global media platforms to get our message across through great content. With Gorillabox, we now have mobile as an additional channel to reach people who want to consume video content in this way and learn more about 46664."

Gorillabox was responsible for the deployment of content on the streaming platform, billing integration and customer care, while 46664 markets the service and works with Gorillabox on making live video content available from the concert.

Christian Harris, founder and CEO of Gorillabox, added, "Gorillabox is pleased to be able to support this important charity. The benefit of this mobile portal is not simply to offer great music videos from a galaxy of the world's biggest musicians and celebrities, but also to improve accessibility for areas around the world where people can't get access to a PC."

"The support from 3 for this venture emphasises how important it is to provide mobile access to key events," continued Harris. "As Mandela's concerts was one of the biggest and most widely publicised in London this year, it's great to be involved in pioneering mobile access for all those who couldn't be there in person."
