ITN Showbiz maintains momentum for mobile video apps
1 July, 2009 - 14:05Following on from its launch of an iTunes news app last year, ITN On has introduced a new app designed to offer free of charge the latest happenings in the world of Celebrities.
The new ITN Showbiz app features made-for-mobile celebrity news and interviews with the stars of TV, film and music as well as quirky news stories. ITN On regards the release as building on its strategy to deliver content across multiple platforms with the division recently launching its first TV offering, The Fix, a bespoke daily celebrity bulletin for 4Music.
ITN's showbiz device updates automatically when in use, enabling users to share the latest celebrity news with friends as soon as it breaks through email or social media outlets Twitter and Delicious. The service also has an offline function whereby the application stores the latest stories so users can read them when on the move.
The launch follows what ITN On claims is the ‘success' of its ITN News app, the first video news service released on iTunes in February this year. The app is claimed to be one of the most popular downloads on iTunes with over 3 million page views per month.
To maximise revenue opportunities form the app, specialist mobile advertising agency 4th Screen Advertising has signed up leading brands including Microsoft Bing, The Telegraph, T-Mobile and Samsung to run campaigns on the ITN News app.
Commented Nicholas Wheeler, Managing Director of ITN On, "Our entertainment is extremely popular on digital platforms and continues to be a key driver of our business. The ITN Showbiz app builds on our objective to deliver our content to an even wider audience globally. We're looking to replicate the success we've had with the ITN News app and work closely with brands to commercialise this new service."
