Content to Mobile: Overview
Over the last two years there have been two dominant themes in the mobile TV and video markets: In 2005, the issue was mobile TV broadcast standards and whether they had any general viability; in 2006, content was king; but in 2007 the only issue is business.
Mobile TV is an industry not an experiment and if one thing that sums up entirely the industry’s journey over the last two years it is the announcement
made by the European commission (EC) on 10 July regarding the endorsement of a single standard
mobile TV standard across the EU and the standard ‘encouragement’ to EU member countries to adopt such a standard.
Though controversial and causing great debate among various concerned parties, the debate
centred not on technical merits of that standard over the alternatives. Instead, and quite rightly, on
the business issues related to whether mandating a single technology is appropriate for fostering
positive business outcomes for the European mobile TV industry.
And it is indeed on such issues of business development that is the focus of C2M the only UK title 100% dedicated to the mobile TV and video industry.
